If you
have seen IAMLOVED play live or heard recordings, you know that Saul is
a phenomenal drummer. As a drummer myself, I have always liked Saul's
style. He can beat the shit out of a kit, or add little accents in the
quiet parts. He catches a lot of shit for his "Neil Peart kit,"
with its double-splash cymbals, double kick, and roto toms. But when it's
time, Saul completely delivers. He's a dynamic drummer and a really good
guy. On the Queer Riot Tour with Best Revenge, we gave him the name Saully
Struthers. Probably because he likes to grub, or maybe because he kept
whining, "Daaaddyyyyy!" Who knows. Last year was a tough year for our baby, Saully, but thankfully he turned out OK, and we're glad he's back for more noise-making with IAMLOVED. Here's five questions with Saul of IAMLOVED. -Bilito |

QUESTIONS WITH SAUL OF IAMLOVED

How did you get started with IAMLOVED? Saul: Well hmmmmmm, let's see... I was at a bar called the Faultline in Los Angeles. I ended up talking to Chuck the bass player of the band. Originally they wanted to do a mixture of electronica & digital hardcore but I couldn't keep up with the digital hardcore beats. I was like "No,no,no! Honey, y'all need to pick up some guitars!" The first song we ever wrote was "Way To Go". I think this song is being about a porn star or something like that. And after that first and second rehersal we knew there was something there. |

What do your friends and family think about you being gay? How have you
dealt with the haters, if there are any? Saul: My friends & fam are happy for the fact that I'm gay. Not because I'm gay, but because I'm happy. So, that makes them happy to see me happy. And if I wasn't happy they wouldn't be happy! Get the picture. I have come to realize to show my face and not my ass. Be up front with people and honesty is a good virtue. Good honesty--not the honesty that's going to hurt someone's feelings like, "Yuck! You're UGLY!!!" or... "Those shoes don't look good with that outfit." And as far as haters go, I dont think I have any that I know of... OHHHHH!!!!! WAIT. Madonna sent me hate mail once. She was so jealous of me I had to put a restraining order against her. |

Who is your hero? Saul: My right hand. |

What's going through your head when you're on stage? Saul: I think about pretty things like butterflies, lace, fireflies, kittens, shoes, rabbits. I have never really though about what I think about on stage. Anyone who has seen me play notices that I get in my own little world. I start making faces and yelling. I get these bursts of energy that are unexplained. I hope its not Tourette's Syndrome!!!!! I love what I do and it shows when I play. I love to be on stage with my girls Jimmy, Jonny and Chuck. We pretty much have our own personalities on and off stage. But we mix well. So come see us play and you'll now what I'm talking about! |
